John Carney III built his foundation in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was born to John Carney Jr. and Emily Carney. Carney currently resides in Clarksville, Tennessee, with his wife, Sarah. Sarah owns a local business and shares John's interest in entrepreneurship. He recently started a civil infrastructure consulting firm, allowing him to work independently again. With over 15 years of experience in civil engineering, he uses his expertise to support local development firms by guiding best management practices.

John has returned to his entrepreneurial background by starting a civil construction consulting firm for developers. C3GCLLC works directly with developers to support site planning and best management practices. He believes he is most effective when present on-site, where he can provide direct and qualified guidance. He works closely with smaller development firms and contractors to support project management and quality control.

Civil Site Superintendent, Harness LLC

Carney of Clarksville, TN, joined Harness LLC in 2019. The company operates as a grading and utility contractor focused on building strong teams. He began as an Operator and later advanced into a project foreman role. His focus on knowledge sharing and team development helped him secure a superintendent position. He managed all phases of site development, including timelines and budgets, supervised multiple crews, and followed OSHA standards. He also conducted risk assessments and led safety planning sessions.

Carney previously worked as an equipment operator at Brad Sidle Construction. His responsibilities included supporting site preparation, land clearing, excavation, grading, and parking lot systems. This work near Memphis, Tennessee, gave him experience with soil conditions that required reinforcement due to the absence of natural bedrock. He learned to strengthen structural soils using alternative methods and recycled materials.

Equipment Operations, Morgan Contractors

John also worked in equipment operations at Morgan Contractors Inc. in Clarksville, Tennessee. He worked with excavation crews on cut-and-fill operations and helped reduce downtime through preventative maintenance. He supported management by reporting workflow and assisting in training junior operators.

Founder, Carney Landscape

Carney began his entrepreneurial journey during his junior year of high school. He started by mowing neighborhood yards and later expanded into landscape maintenance. After graduating, he launched Carney Landscape, a landscaping business. Over six years, he gained experience in operations and customer relations. His work included grading yards, planting, irrigation systems, paver patios, retaining walls, and in-ground pool construction.

His Education

John graduated from Clarksville High School, where he participated in baseball, soccer, football, wrestling, and golf. After high school, he studied Agriculture and Plant Science at Austin Peay State University, gaining hands-on experience through farm-based learning. He later attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he studied Landscape and Construction Design. He returned to Austin Peay and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in May 2017.

In His Free Time

Carney spends his free time enjoying outdoor activities such as ATV trail riding, boating, compound-bow shooting, and golfing. He also participates in sim racing, including NASCAR events on iRacing. He enjoys working on his Jeep and modifying it. His interest in civil construction extends to collecting antique land surveying instruments, which he uses to educate others about surveying history. He also supports Sarah by helping maintain her salon business.

Giving Back

Carney continues to give back alongside his wife, Sarah. They care for animals and currently have a Chocolate Lab named Beau, a rescue dog named Rusty, and two cats, Rita and Buddie. They help rescue animals, provide care, and support placing them in homes. He supports the Montgomery and Christian County animal shelters.

John Carney remains active in the Clarksville Alumni Football Club. The organization hosts fundraising events such as golf and bowling tournaments to support the football program and provide scholarships for students. This involvement remains meaningful to him, as his father and former teammates were part of similar efforts in earlier years.
